It's a busy week with Meet the Teacher on Thursday, but please consider this important donation request.

Due to a change in district policy, Lincoln teachers are no longer able to ask parents/families to assist with defraying the cost of various necessary classroom supplies.

Therefore, the Lincoln PPT has taken over the responsibility to collect donations and raise funds to cover these costs.  We need your help!

Please consider making a voluntary donation of $25.00 per child to the Lincoln PPT to help cover the costs of these classroom supplies.

Make checks payable to “Lincoln PPT” and write “PPT Classroom Fundraiser” and your student’s name on the check. After Meet the Teacher on September 1, please drop off or backpack express your donations to the Lincoln office to be put in the PPT school mailbox.

We have many, many flowers to sell and we will be in the butterfly garden area before and after school each day starting TOMORROW.

Get ready. Get set. Roar! Or you could bark, quack, or squeak, because the 2016 ANIMAL ALLIES^SM season is all about our furry, feathered, and finned friends.

FIRST LEGO League challenges kids to think like scientists and engineers. During the ANIMAL ALLIES season, teams will choose and solve a real-world problem in the Project. They will also build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS^® technology to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game.

Volunteers Needed

On June 8^th we will be collecting all the American Reading book tubs in the classrooms at Lincoln as well as packing up from the Book Swap. We will need to sort, organize and prepare books for storage. It involves thousands of books. Ideally it would be awesome if we could get 4-6 volunteers from 8:30/9:00-11:30ish  and then another 4-6 from 12:30-3:30 in the afternoon. Gallon Zip-Loc Bags Needed for Book Swap

The annual Lincoln Summer Reading Book Swap is just around the corner (June 6-7). We are in need of gallon Zip-Loc bags for students to use at the swap. Stay for 10 minutes or an hour and see the future of 3D imaging.  See how students can look inside the human body in 3D.

 Come and see the possible future of science and technology at Lincoln.  After dropping you student off spend some time experiencing this innovative learning system. It will be available at Lincoln on Wednesday, May 18 from 8:00 AM to Noon. Stop in for a few minutes or for an hour.

2016 zSPACE VIRTUAL REALITY MOBILE CLASSROOM will be at Lincoln

We would like to invite ­­­­­you to participate in the first ever zSpace Virtual Reality Classroom Tour. May 18^th, 8am-12pm.  As many school districts are undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the creation of STEAM focused programs, we’re traveling to schools to demonstrate the latest in virtual reality-based learning experiences. Parents and students are invited hop on board this innovative mobile classroom to discover how over 250 K-12 school districts, universities, and medical schools today are effectively incorporating zSpace into their lesson plans and curriculum. Each visit on the zSpace Virtual Reality Classroom includes: 

-         Exclusive time on board the 12 System Mobile Virtual Reality Classroom at Lincoln 

-         Hands-on demonstrations to for Parents, and students to experience zSpace

Where a Project Idea and Creativity will take You

When Abby, Kylee, Samantha, and Zoe found out over 2.4 million healthy cats and dogs were being “put down” each year, after not being adopted, they decided to do something about it.  For their “Genius Hour” project, they decided to launch a website dedicated to bringing awareness to this problem.  Their site, Animals United, also provides links to local businesses for pet adoption.  Check out their site, Animals United, to learn more.  http://pegasuslover25.wix.com/animals-united

It's hard to believe, but the end of the school year is fast approaching and that means end of year celebrations and saying goodbye to our 8th graders.  Each year a 7th grade parent/parents host a cake and punch reception for the 8th grade class following their graduation ceremony on the last day of school.

RAMP stands for Rochester Accelerated Math Program. RAMP is designed to meet the needs of high ability math students.

*Middle School Math Testing     During March, the Gifted Specialists administered the Orleans Hannah test to identified fifth grade students in their elementary buildings.  This test is only one piece of information used by the gifted specialists to place students in middle school math  Information about the Rochester Accelerated Math Program (RAMP) is available here on the District Gifted Services website.

Congratulations Math Masters Sixth Grade Team!

 

6th Graders Henry Kruse, John Amusan, Max Spinner, Selina Chen, and Gabby Jimenez - Trejo went down in the books last Friday and made history as Lincoln's first 6th grade Math Masters team. They represented Lincoln well with great effort, attitude and determination. Max Spinner also placed 16th out of over 150 kids! Well done!

Wear Red or Blue Tomorrow!

Please have your students wear red or blue shirts Friday 3/11! This week is AmeriCorps Appreciation week! The Math Corps color is blue and the Reading Corps color is red. Lincoln’s AmeriCorps tutors Adam, Ginny, and Bridget are at Lincoln every day helping students in Math and Reading to help them succeed at their grade level. Please have your students wear red or blue on Friday to show  appreciation for the hard work that these tutors do for  students though the Reading and Math Corps.

Reading Corps Position

Last year, Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps provided direct services to over 40,000 children in more than 900 schools across the state.

As a tutor, you'll see a student's progress – in their test scores, in their other school work and in their eyes as they light up with the satisfaction of knowing they can do it. No child wants to stand out because they can’t learn as quickly as other kids. We’re helping more kids catch up and soar on their own. And you can be part of it. 

Tutors receive on-site support from specially trained school mentors. Tutors are paid a living allowance, are eligible for an education award of up to $5,775 and given federal student loan forbearance. Tutors 55 or older may gift the award to a child or grandchild.

Camp Invention

Camp Invention is returning to Rochester Public Schools!

Camp Invention takes summer fun and transforms it from ordinary to extraordinary!

In partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Kellogg Middle School is pleased to offer the nationally-acclaimed Camp Invention program to children entering grades 1st through 6th. It’s an exciting, weeklong summer adventure with lessons that explore connections between science, technology, engineering and innovation. Children will work together to seek solutions to real-world problems and sharpen critical 21^st century learning skills while rotating through several fascinating modules. Week one begins on June 20, 2016 and week two begins on June 27, 2016 with Kristi Sanders serving as Director of both programs!

                               Week One - Epic

Children will construct and personalize a DIY solar-powered cricket with a unique habitat, play high-energy games and use parts from everyday devices to invent and solve real-world problems.

                               Week Two - Morphed

Boys and girls will spend their time designing a small, motor-powered vehicle to race during the Super Go Road Rally and building original prototypes using real tools found in everyday devices.

Interested in volunteering but don't know where? The Social Committee is a great place to start. This committee plans fun family events for the school such as: Ice Cream Social, Pizza Bingo, Movie Day, Carnival and much more. We usually meet about 8-10 times throughout the school year to discuss and plan events. If you are interested The Social Committee is having a meeting Thursday, March 10th at 6pm at Fiesta Cafe. The Lincoln Ellen Hunt Alumni Scholarship chairs are looking for two parent volunteers to participate as a member of the scholarship selection committee.

This is a one-time volunteer opportunity where members of the committee participate in reviewing scholarship applications, meet for a single evening to dialogue and select a recipient. Members of the committee are given the applications to review prior followed by a selection meeting on May 11^th (typically lasting for 1-2 hours).

No experience needed, however selected members need to be available on May 11th .
