Lincoln Students Connecting with NASA International Space Station (ISS) – April 24

Teaching From Space, in conjunction with NASA Johnson Space Center’s Public Affairs Office, facilitates downlinks which are designed to encourage K-16 students to study and pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). This project is part of our partnership with Mayo Clinic and the InSciEd Out program and was arranged by scientist Dr. Christopher Pierret.

Lincoln K-8 Choice School students in grades 1,4 and 5 will connect with the International Space Station through the Digital Learning Network (DLN) on Thursday, April 24.. Due to technology limitations, Lincoln students will not get to directly ask questions to the astronauts on the ISS; instead, a surrogate in Colorado will ask a few chosen questions from select remote sites to the astronauts on the ISS. The questions will be chosen by the staff at the Air Force Academy and read during the 20 minute downlink, and the author of the question will be given proper credit. After the downlink, Lincoln students will be able to interface directly with a panel of astronauts in CO through the DLN and live video feeds.

Because of space limitations, parents cannot be accomodated to watch the event at Lincoln, but parents can watch LIVE online on NASA TV at 10:45am on Thursday at:

Opportunity - Take your Kids to a Twins Game this Friday!

Lincoln is very fortunate to partner with an organization called for Tix For Tots that gives us free tickets.
We have an opportunity for Lincoln parent/guardians to take their children to the red hot Minnesota Twins game vs Detroit Tigers at Target Field.
The game is this Friday at 7:10 and is a promotional night with the first 10,000 fans receiving a Fur Bomber Hat.
Please let Jim Sonju jasonju@rochester.k12.mn.us know how many tickets you would like to take your family to the game. We will give out the 50 tickets to the first families that reply.
This is just another fun way to bond with your kids taking them to a game at a great ballpark.

Please Vote - Help Lincoln Win a Seeds of Change Grant!

We need your vote everyday between April 1 and April 21 to win the Seeds of Change Grant! How to vote:
When you get on the Seeds of Change webpage http://www.seedsofchangegrant.com
enter "Lincoln" in the Search Garden Name box and look for an image of our greenhouse and storage shed.  Please use the link EVERY day and vote for our project. Share on your FB page and tell your friends, family, neighbors!

We have started six raised bed gardens next to the playground and have moved the greenhouse next to the gardens. This year we are adding straw bale gardens to show kids that they can grow some of their food at home without digging up the yard. We have applied for a $10,000 dollar grant from the Seeds of Change organization. This would allow us to continue this project but also provide a straw bale start-up kit for parents and the neighbors around us to grow some of their own food. In order to move to the next level we need you to vote for our project once a day if possible. The top vote getters will then move to committee and final awarding of the money.

Thanks for your support!
